Paperboard GSM is not coating GSM. These approximate coating references depend on the final confirmed specification and must never be treated as the paperboard weight.
How to choose
Start with beverage/application, wall structure, market requirements and evidence needs. Then confirm barrier type, coating weight and testing with the order specification. For single-wall cups, hot drinks typically use a single PE coating and cold drinks a double PE coating. PE, PLA and water-based options are available for the confirmed cup format and order requirements; water-based refers to a water-based coating and is not by itself a plastic-free or regulatory-compliance claim. No option is automatically recyclable, compostable or biodegradable in every market.
